Swidnica Day Trip to UNESCO World Heritage Site
Spend a day in Swidnica, a small town near the mountains, hiding gems. Visit the UNESCO site and enjoy the unique café in the 1730 building.
The Swidnica Main Station and Area
We arrived in Swidnica by train from Wroclaw. The main station is beautiful and compact. We wanted to start exploring Swidnica from Central Park, so we headed there. There are many things to see on the way to the park. Don't miss the Water Tower and other interesting buildings.
Swidnica Central Park
In Świdnica, Central Park offers expansive greenery spots. There are many charming paths and places for quiet relaxation. You can spend time on the observation deck in the form of a gazebo, walk along the river, or sit near the fountain. The bridge in Central Park is the first reinforced concrete bridge in Świdnica, built-in 1911. Additionally, we found a monument of the mythical Blacksmith Wieland in the park. We looked up information about him online, and it's quite interesting.
The St. Stanislaus and St. Wenceslaus Cathedral
From the park, we spotted the cathedral tower and decided to visit. It's the St. Stanislaus and St. Wenceslaus Cathedral, the main cathedral in Świdnica. Its Gothic tower stands at 102 meters, the tallest in the Silesia region. Visitors can enter from Monday to Saturday. For more details, check the cathedral's website.
The Market Square «Rynek» in Swidnica. Neptune's Fountain and Different Townhouses
The Market Square, known as «Rynek», is the heart of the city and truly stunning. This vibrant area features the Town Hall at its center, surrounded by colorful townhouses. Notable landmarks include the green townhouse «Pod Merkurym» and the Holy Trinity Column, built in 1693 in Baroque style. Neptune's Fountain and the Fountain With Atlas adorn the corners. You'll also find a bench with a bronze statue of Maria Cunitz, the renowned astronomer. Additionally, surrounding Market Square, many other interesting buildings are waiting to be explored.
The Town Hall Tower Observation Deck
The Town Hall at the center of Market Square offers visitors the opportunity to see Świdnica from above. With an observation deck located in the Town Hall Tower, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire city and its attractions, with the mountains in the background. Additionally, the Town Hall houses a museum, adding to the experience of exploring this historic landmark.
The Cactus Cafe on the Market Square
On the Market Square, we found a nice little coffee shop called Cactus Cafe. It has a cozy interior and offers tasty treats. I recommend trying the pistachio tartlet. If you're lucky, a seat near the window will be available for your enjoyable break.
The Church Of Peace, UNESCO World Heritage Site
The highlight of this trip is The Church Of Peace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of three such churches in the world. Surrounded by greenery, the church's exterior and interior offer distinct experiences. Once inside, take your time to explore every detail; the beauty and grandeur are truly captivating. The surrounding area also deserves attention, with old gravestones scattered throughout the park zone. Overall, the landscape exudes a calming ambiance.
The Cafe & Bistro 7niebo
On the grounds of The Church of Peace is a cafe called 7niebo, located in an old caretaker's house built in 1730. The interior is stunning, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. There are many food options to choose from. I recommend trying the carrot cake for dessert. Additionally, they have an outdoor area where you can enjoy the birds singing.
